  • It is the centrepiece of the Deutschlandtakt: the Frankfurt long-distance railway tunnel with the new, additional underground station below the main station. Frankfurt Central Station is already one of the most important transport hubs in the German railway network with over 1,400 long-distance and local trains a day. In order to cope with the increased traffic of the future, the long-distance railway tunnel is needed, with the majority of long-distance traffic stopping at the four new platforms of the underground underground station. This will free up capacity above ground, enabling the expansion of local and regional transport.
