The project ‘floating homes’ is a proposal for an alternative housing form on an inner city waterway (Rummelsburger Bucht) in Berlin. We proposed a floating house designed as a simple, industrially-manufactured basic structure which allows different interior configurations. According to the principle of the starter house, the owner can change his ‘floating home’ to fit his current needs. With a minimum of effort, the conversion and expansion can be realized, even as a DIY- project by a homeowner. The floating home product design has not been finalized, but offers the potential for an appealing and comfortable alternative to standard housing.
