  • Vitra, a furniture showroom, is located on Gutleutstraße at a busy intersection with a traffic light. In order to intrigue those stopped at a red light, as well as pedestrians, they have commissioned an exhibition series, highly visible in the large showroom windows.

For this installation, we focused on movement changing perception, and experimented with a transient volume that fills a large space by means of a minimal use of material. By applying wafer-thin colored-foil disks on a thin PET film hung from the ceiling, an optical illusion of a three-dimensional object is created. The object attains the illusion of depth by using disks graduated in size, and by using a dark foil for the outer ring and a bright blue foil for the inner ring of each disk.

When moving past or around the installation, the image constantly changes and the layer images transform from a volume to a transparent structure. In the process, the image contour appears to change and blur, mistily condensing transparent layers to form an exciting dialogue.

From the consideration and design of individual sectional cuts, the floating body is representational of the planning processes in architecture.
